What is real caviar?

It seems that every single egg or row that comes from a fish is called Caviar.

But it’s the same as calling every kind of bubbly liquid in a bottle for Champagne. Champagne can only be from the Champagne region in France.  Real Caviar is from the Sturgeon family, also known as the Acipenseridae family. And preferably fresh , not pasteurised. Many other types of fish roe get pasteurised to give them a longer shelf-life. Fresh Caviar will normally have 3-4 month’s shelf-life, other types of roe will have up to 6 months.

Another way to distinguish a real caviar is the obligatory CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) number that should accompany every tin/jar of caviar. I dare say that nearly all legal caviar is farmed and that to ensure that all  production and sale of Caviar is both legal and genuine importers are required to ensure that a CITES import number is on every container.

Therefore when you buy caviar then check the shelf-life and that it has a CITES number on the bottom of the tin/jar.

We are maybe not the biggest caviar company in the UK. Nor are we the oldest. But we pride ourselves in having one of the biggest selections of real caviar in the UK and that “It does what it says on the tin”, so to speak. In this case, bigger isn’t always better, often it just means that it’s probably more expensive. We have 8 types of real caviar on offer, from Beaerii to Beluga, but we actually have 11 on offer thru the year.

We also pride ourselves in having many private customers, celebrities and business leaders who prefer to get a more personal service and a bigger selection from a small private owned Caviar company that sets quality and customer service as it’s priority, than from some of the bigger companies. That we also have some of the most reasonable prices on the market doesn’t hurt either.

New exciting caviar. The Siberian Oscietra Hybrid Caviar.

We believe that we have a good/wide selection of Sturgeon Caviar. From the Classic Baerii to the Royal Beluga.

The Asetra/Oscietra Caviar, also known as the Russian Sturgeon has been one of the most popular Caviar’s on the market for many years. It is just as well known as the Beluga, but always about 1/3 of the price. This is changing as demand for the Asetra/Oscietra Caviar grows, so does the price.

So it is always a pleasure to introduce a cheaper alternative that lies very close to the Asetra/Oscietra. This is because this Caviar is part Oscietra. The Siberian Oscietra Hybrid Caviar. Smotth, creamy, half Baerii/Half Oscietra, but very close to the Oscietra in taste, appearance and size. That it is somewhat cheaper doesn’t hurt.

WE are running severla great offers on this lovely Caviar durinfg April/May.

So grab yourself a bargain and try this creamy alternative. Customers are loving it. We are sure you will too.

We are celebrating our 5th Birthday with a thank you.

Well,Honestly, our 5th Birthday was back in December, but we were so busy then that we didn’t really have to to do much about it. So we decided to have it again, at the beginning of May.

Like most of our ideas, this one is a bit whacky too. But we are just happy to have made it past our fifth Birthday, and hopefully, at least 5 more.

WE decided to stick with the “5” theme and call it FiveSquare: 5 days, in the 5th Month, 5 great deals for £5, from 5pm. That’s easy to remember. Try saying that quickly.

We are offering 5 of our most popular products for only £5. That’s between 40%- 85% off the normal price. This is just for our Birthday, and believe us, the £5 will cover the labour costs, and that’s all we want. We believe this is a way of saying thank you to all the lovely people that have supported us over the last five years and hopefully also show others what we can offer and for £5, you can’t go wrong there.

So come and check out the site and make our birthday week a load of fun. And if you want to meet us sometime,. then drop by our Caviar events at More Bar London. Last Tuesday of every month.

See you on the site.

Gold label Siberian Reserve Polanco

The 28th of April we are receiving a new delivery of one of the best Caviar’s we have ever had in our selection. Hence it sells out very quickly. With just over a week left until it arrives we have already sold half of of the delivery, that’s how popular it is. And no wonder.

The quality of this product well outweighs the price. Farmed on the Black River in Uruguay, and unlike many producers that take the first harvest, this small family run business discard it and let the Sturgeon grow and then take the second harvest, hence you get a bigger, better, creamier product. It can’t be beaten. Worth every penny, and more. Order your supply now, before it sells out. We only get 4 deliveries a year.Gold Label Siberian Reserve

Caviar of the month, March: Freshwater Beluga Hybrid Caviar

This has to be the customer’s favourite caviar type. This Sturgeon can reach up to 160 years of age. This is a Hybrid of the Freshwater Beluga and the Amur Sturgeon. Matures much later and hence more expensive. We have many customers that believe thou that it’s worth that bit more to get a high grade quality product.2,4-2,8mm roe, a grey silver shimmer and a slightly harder shell that pops in your mouth with an amazingly creamy aftertaste. If you ever feel that you need to try a caviar for the first time, then Beluga is worth it. Give it a try, spoil yourself!!

Watch out for our upcoming Caviar tasting event’s.

We have been receiving loads of requests to arrange caviar tastings. And as i’m very passionate about caviar I thought it was about time.

We have planned to do our first spring tasting in a very central location near London Bridge towards the end of April.

We want to ensure that it’s affordable and fun. No only is it a chance to try caviar (if you haven’t tried it before but also to try several and maybe find one that is your favourite.

Many people have the preconception that it’s just fishy tasting eggs. But it’s much more than that, it’s a story of years of hard work and patience before the caviar gets on to your spoon. It can take up to 10 years, depending on the sturgeon/caviar type.

The even is expected to last about 1,5-2 hours where we offer 3-4 types of caviar samples plus a mix of canape’s plus a glass or 2 of Champagne.

So watch the website or even better sign up for our newsletter so your sure that your one of the first to get an invite. We even offer our newsletter customers a discount.

You can also follow us on twitter (CaviarClassicLondon ) or on facebook.
